Hazel & Maggie, Always Close

We didn’t get to visit for Christmas this year.

Life, schedules, and miles had other ideas.

But even when we can’t be together, some hearts still end up on the worktable.

Hazel and Maggie—our fur grandbabies—were very much on my mind this season. Two little Morkies who manage to take up an outsized amount of space in our thoughts, even from afar. So when the laser was warmed up and the shop was quiet, I made something small just for them.

Engraved wooden coasters.

Simple. Personal. Made slowly.

One says love, because that part was obvious.

The other carries their names, side by side—Hazel and Maggie—just as they belong.

These weren’t about perfection or product lines. They were about presence. About holding someone close when you can’t quite do it in person. A way of saying I was thinking of you without needing a package to be elaborate or loud.

That’s the thing about handmade pieces. Sometimes they’re gifts. Sometimes they’re reminders. And sometimes they’re just proof that distance doesn’t stop love from showing up.

Hazel and Maggie may not know about the coasters yet.

But they were here all the same—etched into wood, and into the season
